HKC Gives Back
Proceeds from our shows, programs, and events help
support a variety of canine-related charities. [read more about the
charities we support]
During these difficult economic times, the Harrisburg Kennel Club
is honored to be able to support our community with a $4,800
donation to the Harrisburg Police Department’s K-9 Unit to defray
the cost of feeding their police dogs through December 2013.
Pictured is the presentation to the Department at the HKC's August
14, 2011 show.
When the K-9 unit's star canine, Zeus, became ill,
the Harrisburg Kennel Club voted to purchase a new crime-fighting
canine for the Harrisburg Police Department. Shortly thereafter,
Zeke, a 13-month-old Belgian Malinois joined the K-9 unit. Our
commitment to our community earned us "Hometown Hero" recognition
from WHTM (Channel 27). When we learned that one of the officers is
planning to retire, the Harrisburg Kennel Club stepped up again and
offered to be the guarantor of a new Harrisburg City police dog.
We have committed to feeding the K-9 unit through
the end of 2013. Through an agreement with Purina, we have been able
to buy a quality food at a discount that provides the high level of
protein that working dogs like those in the K-9 unit need. To help
keep the costs of the food down, we are participating in the Purina
Breeder Program.
You can
show your
support for the K-9 unit
by donating the weight circles from any Purina products
you
purchase - please
contact Sally Kamm at
HKC_K-9@hkc.org for information on how to
donate -- or use the DONATE button
on the bottom of this page. |

"Hero"
Following the tragedies of 9/11, the AKC established
The American Kennel Club Companion Animal Recovery Canine
Support and Relief Fund to commemorate the tireless heroism of the many
Search and Rescue teams. The AKC/CAR Canine Support and Relief Fund is
a charitable fund to support professional and volunteer canine search and
rescue organizations throughout the United States.
HKC's support of the
DOGNY project
through the purchase of "Hero" is an expansion on its commitment to
support the work of Dog-Assisted Search and Rescue.
